And Karen Allen looks GREAT!
Does she ever. She looks like she may have aged 15 years tops since The Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Shia LeBeouf, would you please remove that thing that died on your upper lip?

Marion was always Indy's true love. Plus she can knock 'em back with the best of them.

One side of me is really looking forward to this movie, while the adult side is thinking that Ford is way too old for this. Remember that bad movie he did with Anne Heche*? There was a scene in that movie where he had to run....and it wasn't pretty. Not pretty at all.
*I don't remember the name of the movie. Something days, something nights. With numbers, I think.

Is anyone going to see this over the weekend? We're going tomorrow and I really hope it's solid (I'm not even shooting for fantastic). I love Indy/Marion and just want some awesomeness from them with lots of cool stunts.

I'm really excited for this, more than I thought I'd be. I've been ignoring all the lukewarm reviews. Here's a good one from Stephanie Zacharek that made me happy:

I enjoyed it. I don't think it's an Oscar winner, but it's a lot of fun and action-packed.

I saw it today and liked it. I don't know if I liked it as much as the previous films, but that's not necessarily the film's fault. It doesn't feel as fresh and magical to me as the first three, but neither did the latter 3 Star Wars movies; it's hard to recapture that wide-eyed viewing that you did when you were a kid.
Ebert gave it 3.5 stars, btw.

That's pretty much what I felt. I did have a big smile on my face as I left the cinema. There was some very clever moments and I was a little surprised by the direction it went in.

I thought it was really cute. It had its weaknesses and also cribbed a little too much off of Last Crusade in some respects, but it was fun and didn't ruin the Indy universe for me, so I was entertained.

I saw it again yesterday and actually enjoyed it more on a second viewing (it helps that there wasn't a guy with a big head partially blocking my view like the first time). Caught a few more of the background touches and stuff like that. Plus it was fun listening to a few of the people around me getting very excited/scared/etc. during some of the scenes.
The most fun was after it was over, though: Listening to two nerds discuss the CGI in technical terms like they were big-time filmmakers themselves is always entertaining

I'm hesitant to spend money to see this, but I get the feeling the experience needs to be had on the big screen. Any opinions from those that have been on that?

I always think that a blockbuster needs to be seen on the big screen, with the sound as well. I will be going to see Indy again when my Mum is back from France, she's really looking forward to it.

I definitely say go for seeing it on the big screen. It's a fun movie and you won't be sorry you shelled out the bucks for a ticket. I really enjoyed it, though (speaking of cribbing) there were times when I wouldn't have been surprised if Nicolas Cage had popped up.
My view of Indiana Jones movies is a little contradictory. I think of them as a sort of institution and yet at the same time I don't expect them to be any more than rollicking entertainment. I think some critics concentrate too much on the institution aspect and forget that the whole Indy concept is a hammy homage to the Republic serials from Saturday afternoons of decades long past. It's best enjoyed by suspending your disbelief as soon as the opening credits start rolling.

Yeah, I think it can be easy to forget how campy the original trilogy was at times since it's such a revered franchise, so if the critics are romanticizing the previous films, it would be easy to knock this one down a few pegs. I thought it had the right feel for the most part, though, and although I did think Indy and Marion had become a little more exaggerated, all of the actors were working on the same level so it worked as a whole for me. You could tell that Cate Blanchett was having the best time with this.
And this should definitely be seen on the big screen. This and Iron Man have already made this summer's blockbuster season better than last summer's for me.

I was watching Raiders the other night, and the ending was as deus ex machiney as Crystal Skull's. I was a bit cautious about seeing this after reading a few bad reviews, but it was great. Shia LaBeef had great chemistry with Harrison Ford. The plot twists were fairly predictable, including the explanation about the aliens, and the stunts at the climax were beyond belief, but the saving grace was Ford, Shia, and Karen Allen's little family unit and their interplay.

Definitely see it on the big screen - there is one scene in particular involving a nuclear explosion, that really needs to be seen and heard on the big screen to do it justice.
I loved every bit of it. Seeing Indy in a new time period was fun, and Harrison Ford was still every bit as sexy dynamic.

Add another vote for the big screen here, too. Epics were meant to be seen in large scale.

I loved the movie, but I think the REAL "passing of the hat" didn't involve Indy's fedora, but Brando's cap from "The Wild Ones". My favorite scene in Indy IV was the one where LeBeef comes roaring out of a steam cloud, riding that Harley, that hat, and that same cocky look. A fabulous, iconic image.

I was so bummed out over this movie. The rental of the sets from National TreasureBook of Secrets, the bits and pieces of plots from Lucas's films just
wasn't Indy's best movie or his kid's.
