s it just me, or has the buzz about the fall season been incredibly muted this year? Bionic Woman is one of the few new shows I know anything about. Otherwise I'm just looking forward to the return of old favorites, which feels very strange. Surely it's not just that I'm getting old, is it? <br>There was a period during which most of the new show pilots were "leaked" online. I saw the pilots for Chuck, Reaper, The Sarah Conner chronicles, Bionic Woman and Private practice.
Reaper was my favourite. The pilot was directed by Kevin Smith and it showed. It was very funny and weird at the same time. It really doesn't take itself seriously.
Chuck is also very good. It has an interesting cast and will probably get more buzz.
The Sarah Conner Chronicles pilot looked expensive with a lot of action and explosions. It's a lot more serious show than the previous two. I have a feeling that the regular episodes will be a lot more limited by the budget and the show will suffer. You don't watch Terminator for the dialogues and character development.
The Bionic Woman pilot suffered from very bad special effects and Katee Sackhoff acted circles around Michelle Ryan. The show rests on her shoulders and hopefully she will get more comfortable in the role.
Private Practice will only appeal to the people who think the last season of Grey's Anatomy was the best show on tv. It's a shame to waste such a great cast on such a bad show.

QUOTE (EssPee+Sep 25 2007, 02:47 PM) Thanks, rural juror. I'd forgotten about Reaper. And now it sounds like we ought to give Chuck a chance. Of all the new shows I've seen this week, so far Chuck and Reaper are my favorites, in that order. I didn't expect to like them, but I did. Chuck is funny and warm and manages to blend action and comedy well; Reaper is flat out crazy, and Ray Wise has owned my soul ever since "Twin Peaks".

I also watched Journeyman and almost quit midway through the episode. It felt too confusing and only Kevin McKidd's amazing performance kept me watching. I glad i did though, because it all started making sense in the last 20 minutes and delivered a big payoff. I'll be watching next week but i have i feeling that the show won't last the season. It's too dark and dramatic for a lot of people.

I'm glad the second episode kept the momentum going. I could do without the exposition but at least the episode was funny. Chuck kinda looked like Jim Alpert at the funeral so i expect a lot of ovaries will explode at Twop.

I really liked the second episode, especially the shout-out to Oceanic Flight 815! The actor who plays Chuck is so likable, but I wish Morgan was a little more interesting. He's a little blah. I'm much more fond of Chuck's sister and Captain Awesome.
Oh, and I got a much better sense of Casey this time. I like him too. The expository stuff could get a little better, but it's not so bad. I think I'm in.

I actually thought that look might be intentional on the network's part since a few times tonight, I thought Zachary Levi was basically doing a John Krasinski impersonation and then at the funeral, it was like whoa, Jim hair.
I'm really digging this show and find it genuinely funny but I tend to love Josh Schwartz's humor. The spy situations are a little fantastic but I think so far, the show's done a pretty good job of having Chuck be truly amazed and perplexed by it all. He never plays the cool guy but he's not a total (socially inappropriate) nerd like Morgan either.
I'm still only lukewarm on Sarah (I keep wanting her to be Olivia Wilde,) but this is the first show I've ever found Sarah Lancaster (Chuck's sister) remotely tolerable in. Casey and Captain Awesome are, in fact, awesome.

I loved it. Casey definitely improved, and I think he's starting to like Chuck (although he would never admit it). I liked Morgan too. He just shows up and really has no idea what the hell is going on but thinks he does. Awesome. As is Captain Awesome. Awesome. I'm liking Sarah, although what's with all the blondes on the new shows? Chuck, Moonlight, others I'm sure but those are the two I watch. I'm glad Reaper has a brunette. I loved that he flew the helicopter because of a video game. I was annoyed that Sarah reamed him out. I mean, the dude just saved your life! I didn't really blame Chuck for suspecting Sarah, but I did like the apology. I'm really digging this show. It's fun, funny, and not overly dramatic. And I love Chuck. And the Nerd Herd.

I was unimpressed with the first half, but the second half improved a bit. Adam Baldwin was great, although WTF is up with his hair? Is he using shoe polish on it? Loved his pseudo-paralysis after he got hit with the dart; when he kept fallling down I laughed every time. Loved the fight between Sarah and Casey; those two have better chemistry onscreen than Chuck and Sarah do. The helicopter flying? Meh. I thought it was dumb. In fact, I thought Chuck was dumber this episode than last week. I hope he smarts up again next week. I will be watching next week, with fingers crossed. I want this show to succeed.

I love this show. It just keeps getting better and better. I laugh at this more than Reaper, although I really like Reaper. I loved the shot of Casey trimming the bonsai tree. So random, yet so funny. And that tango lessens. Heh, Chuck learned the girl part. Man, this show is awesome.

It improved mightily over last week. Adam Baldwin is absolutely stealing this show out from under Zach Levi, though, so ZL had better start bringing his A game. I loved the tango, not just 'cause it was funny but because Chuck was totally okay with taking 'the woman's part'. But the last five minutes were the best--the wonderful conversation between Chuck and his sister, the "I should kiss you now" moment that went nowhere, and creepy Casey spying through his blinds. Yeah, this is much better.

I just don't think that this show works all that well. It should be much more entertaining and fun than it actually is. I really wanted to like it and stick with it, but I'm just not that into it at this point.
To me, Reaper gets the concept (loser/slacker getting a huge new, overwhelming responsibility to deal with) just right. It also has a much more entertaining "best friend" character, and it has a hilarious Devil in Ray Wise.

Yes, he's working retail but he's taking pride in doing a good job and is also trying to get a promotion. Sam refused a promotion offer and hates his job. He's a pure slacker in the Kevin Smith sense.
Sam is starting to annoy me a little with his whining. It's funny that the Devil is more helpful trying to improve his life than he is to to tell him how to recapture the escaped souls.
I find Morgan creepy while Sock is riding a fine line between funny and annoying.

I was spoiled for Bryce coming back, so there wasn't really a big surprise for me at the end of the episode. It doesn't matter though, I enjoy this show so much. The whole cast is wonderful--although I have to admit I couldn't warm toward Rachel Bilson. I never watched The O.C., so my only exposure to the actress was that horrible Zach Braff movie, The Last Kiss. Not what anyone would like to be known by, I'm sure.
It's just such a charming show, I hope it lasts.

The return of the Brycicle was pretty much foreordained from the pilot onward, so I wasn't much surprised either. I found Lou a good match for Chuck, and thought his sandwich order/apology was dead sexy. I really liked it that for the second week in a row, Chuck wasn't screaming in terror. Instead, like Lou said, he was handsome, charming and brave. And honest enough to break off with Lou because he doesn't like lying to her, and he doesn't have to lie to Sarah.
I'm intrigued by the sniper who took out Papa Demitrios. I hope he's part of a larger spy conspiracy. We need SMERSH or THRUSH or some similarly cheesy opposition organization to really get this series on its feet.

Wow, I love this show more and more every episode. I love that they left the door open for Bryce to come back and introduced an excellent big bad. And now that they have a back nine to finish out the season, I really hope the strike gets resolved so we can see where this story goes.
I try to stay out of the Chuck forum on TWoP since it tends to be heavy on the Sarah/Chuck shippers. Also, I don't get the Casey love. I mean, he's fine and all, but he feels very incomplete. It feels like there should be something more there.

Firesticks, it's the same for me, trying to decide which is better. But the way I see it is, Chuck has a great story and plot line so it's more deep than Reaper. But Reaper is just awesome mindless entertainment. Both are my new favorite shows this season.

Even though I like the character Sarah, I haven't really seen a lot of chemistry between her and Chuck, which is fine. It's early in the season. I do like that actress though.
One thing I love about every episode is that every single thing they tell you in the first fifteen minutes, they use. When Chuck could only say one word to Jeff, I completely forgot about "pineapple." The Klingon exchange comes back again. None of those things makes Chuck predictable though, I just enjoy it.
I think the show dispatched Bryce nicely. He's available, but mostly gone.
My love for Casey is partly a carryover from his role on Firefly, which was kind of similar. I think he fills out the Sarah/Chuck storyline and stops it from being too "when will they get together." Sort of the Emerson Cod role on Pushing Daisies.

I thought the gold medal for comedy last night went to Jeff, hiding under the desk ("Someone touched me!") and getting hit on the head.

That breakup was one of the saddest things i have ever seen on tv. I was afraid that Bryce would have an extended presence in order to create that love triangle that most tv writers seem to be so fond of. Fortunately, they didn't go that way.

It's always a treat to have Bryce Larkin back, since he is such a hot, shady bastard, and because the episodes when he appeared during season 1 were so strong.
