This is probably my second favorite network show. It gets tons of awards, but little chatter. I wonder why?
Denny and Alan are one of the best matches on TV in ages. I especially love that "Alan" is admitting to being "old" when most actors his age still play the mature, but sexy hunk card. I love those two.
The supporting cast is outstanding as well, and the writing is tight, so why does this show generate so little "board" interest?
It's on tonight!

God, this show is so awesome. And Denny's dwarf girlfriend is an excellent addition to the cast, though I was a bit uncertain about her at first. Just hoping for one or two more twists to the Alan/Shirley connection before they pack up that storyline.
So...tonight the verdict is in on the murder trial. But will we find out whodunit?

There was a theory floating around that it was the mother. I'm not sure that I buy that one, but it's an interesting idea.
The "Peepy" may be the creepiest character they've ever come up with.

So was it the mother or was it the kid, but the mother covered up? Incest must be permissable after 10, and even though I know they are actors, I still cringed when she layed one on him at the end.

It was mommy!
damn, this show is just outstanding. I love Alan and his age-sex issues. I think this show deals with sex in the most realistic way I have ever seen (on tv.)
Just a great show, as usual.

Whoa. I didn't actually call it, but I did consider that possibility. Just not the actual relationship. It was a good storyline, even if it was a bit much for the new actors this quickly after their introduction. Now maybe we can get back to the central characters for a while.

I thought it was great. It made me like the new characters, and the old characters (except Shirley and the other partner) were't overlooked. Alan and Denny weren't still front and center with strong stuff.
So, is the drawf gone? I can't think of any of the new people's names right now. <sigh, I'll miss her. She was good!>
Eris Rising
25th October 2006 - 09:36 AM
Aw, I'm sure she'll be back. The "Don't tell me she's standing right there" running gag is too good for them to not continue it someday. And yes, I did miss Alan and Denny. I just wished that they'd explore some of the characters that we've met already a bit more fully rather than throwing us in the deep end with the new partner. He is an interesting character, though, similar to Alan but with some distinct differences.

I've only watched this show a few times, but have they ever had any lawyers from Ally McBeal show up? I hated Ally and by the end just about everyone else on that show, but I think a Richard Fish cameo would be great on Boston Legal.

See, that's part of why I love the show though. Alan is acting his age, and it's so refreshing to not keep pushing a (very hot!) old guy as the hunk. New hunk. Alan gets to rock cool aging issues.
Meanwhile, personally, I think that actor is the sexiest guy on TV right now. I could almost poof!
Eris Rising
25th October 2006 - 09:56 AM
Hey, nobody warned me that there would be poofing involved.
He's a fine character, no doubt about it. It's odd, though, since we haven't seen much of Brad over the past few major stories.

I'm not Mark Valley's biggest fan, but I think that that may be due to the fact that they don't give him much to do other than standing around and cracking the occasional joke.

I really like this show and think it just keeps getting better.
The cast is too big, though. The only thing that gripes me a little is when they introduce new characters who look like they're going to be permanent additions and then we never see them again because there's no time for their storylines. There was that young attorney who had a crush on Denise and screwed the paralegal at a competing firm -- I thought he had great potential, but he disappeared. He had a young black female attorney friend that Alan was trying to mack on, too. And what happened to Alan's secretary? And they should at least have Betty White push her donut cart down the hall once in a while. Etc.
Ah, well. Maybe they'll all show up again at some time. I don't know who I'd get rid of to make room for them, though.

I figured the dwarf (what the heck is her name again?) would be his daughter. Nice to see the southern bell playing the mom.
I love that they are continuing with the "Peep Pee's" story. I have a feeling he just rocked the roll so much that they kept writing for him. Meanwhile, the mom/son murder is probably over, but I really wish they would catch her--resolve it more, even though it's quite logical that the real killer is never convicted. I just want her butt confined, and I would love to see both of them again too.
Love this show!

Excellent episode last night, all things considered. Coho is shaping up as a character of his own.
I'm thinking that the affectless "funny" lesbian attorney with long blonde hair may be a dig at Serena Southerlyn/Elizabeth Rohm of Law and Order "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" fame.

I caught part of an old ep of Ellen's talk show yesterday; Bill Clinton was on and said BL was one of his favorite shows. Ooh, I feel so Rhodes-scholar validated in my Shatner love.
I think this has quietly crept up to be my most anticipated show of the week. Yeah, it's goofy and unrealistic in the extreme, but at least it's never boring.

But then she wouldn't look like all the other wealthy women around. There are a few at my place of employment and it took me a while to figure out what was "wrong" with them. So it's looking like any woman with a 6 figure income is running out and getting botoxed around here. It's too the point I'm going to decide any woman over 40 that has a forehead line is "poor."

Did anyone watch this last night? Can paternity really be determined when you just found out you were pregnant? You don't have to wait until the baby is born? If it can be done -- how?
Is that enough questions?
IRule
7th February 2007 - 12:55 PM
I did! Yes, paternity can be done at the amnio (sp?) - and I'm assuming that's how it was compared -- if it was indeed compared. It seemed weird that those vials weren't clearly labeled. I don't know. But yeah, at the amniosyntethis (totally spelled wrong), where they take a sample of the amniotic fluid to test for that fucked up chromosome that indicates mental retardation (and some other things), you can use that sample to test DNA or whatever. Who says you can't learn from Maury? (actually my fiancee is a first-year resident and I asked him the same thing last night)

Thanks I Rule. It just seemed wierd, but then I'm not totally convinced she really had the DNA test done. Guess time will tell.

I just did a little searching. It looks like it was an episode of Studio One called "The Defenders". Ralph Bellamy played the dad.
It looks like Steve McQueen played the innocent man accused of murder. Interestingly, his characters name is Joseph Gordon.

Thanks weejie. I thought it was neat how they combined this story with the old show. One of the best Boston Legal's I have seen for a while.
Did anyone else wonder if the guy's dad was the killer? Shatner had a line where he said "I never considered your dad" and at first I thought that was what he meant, but then he went on to say he hadn't considered the effect the verdict would have on his dad, so now I'm not sure.
weejie
4th April 2007 - 01:34 PM
No, I never thought about his dad being the killer. I wonder if they'll resurrect this storyline in future episodes? They never did bring up any other possible suspects.
At the end of the show, I was just sobbing! I felt so horribly bad for that poor man. And for Denny. And that Billy Joel tune they played, that gets to me every time I hear it.
It was a really great episode last night, but I hope next week's show brings back more of the funny (although it was pretty hilarious seeing the Navy Seal stuck in the vent). All of the sadness last night was a bit too much. I wanna laugh dammit!!

Tonight's show was so...weird. It seemed so stilted and forced. Even Alan and Jerry's reconciliation seemed off. The topics raised were very thought-provoking, but I think they did a poor job this time exploring those topics. Most of the time I really love this show, but tonight, it just seemed...weird, and not in a good way. I wish ABC would offer repeats on their website of this show. I'd like to see it again. Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't enjoy tonight's show nearly as much as I usually do.

Well, I guess at this point I'm talking to myself. That's never stopped me before, so here goes. I thought the case was presented poorly tonight, but I really liked how they portrayed the interpersonal relationships. And I'm so glad that Jerry will be joining the cast!
For all of this show's shortcomings, I really think the acting is excellent. Even the most far-fetched bull is believable because of the wonderful actors. I wish there were more people here that shared my enthusiasm for this show.

Oh yeah, I really wish they would show full episodes from the website, like
Survivor does. It's too bad you've missed so many shows. Maybe you can catch the ones you missed when they do the summer re-runs.
Even though I bitch a little bit about the show, I still think it's one of the best comedy/dramas I've seen. I love the way the show pokes fun at itself and then, in the next minute, it does a 180 and makes you think about the painful realities of life. And I really love the part at the end of every show, when Denny and Alan share a drink and a smoke on the balcony, and their differing views on the topics raised.
I sure hope we can drum up some more interest here in this show,
Shirty. I love to talk about Boston Legal, but my sister is the only person I know who watches it (except for you of course!), and the other message boards I've seen...well, never mind. Believe it or not, TWoP probably has the best discussion for this show that I've seen. But I'm a little shy about posting there. I don't want to worry about whether I've broken one of their bullshit rules.
Anyway, next week looks pretty good. I think there's only two or three more episodes before the end of the season. I hope it comes back for another season this fall.

I love those balcony scenes too. This season I especially like the one where Alan was dressed up like Shirley. And the running joke about Alan staying at Denny's. Or is it Denny staying at Alan's? Anyway -- the best part of the show.

Another very good show last night. The Denny and Alan relationship thing was just a little over the top, but they're so good together that I didn't really mind. I just watched the re-run for Son of the Defender (I think that was the episode title), and it was even better the second time around.
This time I paid more attention to the senator/hooker/Alan Shore storyline. When the senator and his wife were discussing their marital problems and Alan and the poor hooker were forced to listen, I thought all the actors in those scenes were absolutely spot-on. They all conveyed such acute embarrassment, and yet such compassion and empathy.
I think the first time I saw this episode I was so blown away by Shatner's storyline and performance, that I just couldn't pay proper attention to Alan Shore's story. I'm so glad I caught this re-run, I think it may be the best episode of Boston Legal ever.

Wow, this show just keeps getting better! Alan's closing was just stupendous, and John Larroquette's character (Sachs? Sacks? something like that) had a pretty convincing close too. The not guilty verdict kind of pushed the limits of suspending disbelief, but still..... Of course, Denny was awesome in
all his scenes, I just
love his character!
I was heartbroken for poor Jerry. I hope the writers eventually do get him into a romantic relationship. It would be interesting to see where they would go with that. I just hope they don't give him another prop, like the unlit cigarette, and then suddenly turn him into a stereotypical "ladies' man".
The only part of the show I don't care for right now is the new girl, Saffron Burrows (Lorraine? I think that's her character's name). Well, actually, I like her fine in the courtroom, but I just don't buy the "can't keep our hands off each other" storyline with her and Alan. Maybe if they keep her around and give her other things to do too, instead of just lusting after Alan, I'll like her better. She's just too one-dimensional right now, and she isn't selling her character very well. I just don't feel the chemistry between them. Jerry and the other new girl, Tara Summers, acted much more believable in their scenes.
But on the whole, I'm just loving this show. I'm so glad it's back!! And Yay! for James Spader's Emmy win. Richly deserved in my opinion, but Shatner was robbed!
